The average occupancy rate of Macau’s hotel rooms grew by 41.1 percentage points year-on-year to reach 82.8% in October, also improved from the 78.6% rate notched in August.
According to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), the October figure included a rate of 85.6% for 5-star hotels, surging by 45.4 percentage points compared with the same period last year. This was despite the total number of hotel establishments climbing by 19 year-on-year to 137 and the number of rooms by 24.8% to 46,000.
The number of guests of hotel establishments in October grew by 151.8% year-on-year to 1,247,000, including 904,000 guests from mainland China, 187,000 from Hong Kong and 28,000 from Taiwan. The average length of stay of guests held steady at 1.6 nights.
For the first 10 months of 2023 combined, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments increased by 43.0 percentage points year-on-year to 80.9%. The number of guests was also up by 159.9% year-on-year to 11,041,000, while their average length of stay decreased by 0.1 nights to 1.7 nights.
The DSEC added that there were 170,000 visitors to Macau arriving on package tours in October, taking the 10-month total to 914,000.
